His Holiness, Sheikh Saleh ibn Fawzan Al-Fawzan
Introduction: The words liberal and secular Arabic-speaking countries do not have the same meaning as in the German language. The word "Liberal" is used by the media and intellectuals in the most conservative Arab countries (eg, Gulf States) to replace the word "secular". "Secular" adopted in the Arab-speaking world a negative connotation and is often equated atheism and serves as an insult or as a reproach. (Of course vary from country to country). Liberal one calls in the Gulf States, the writer reform Islam, women's and minority rights call for moderation or represent an anti-Islamist stance.
A member of the Fatwa Council of the Great Leader and the Commission of the Islamic studies and fatwas in Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Saleh Al-Fawzan has fueled a fierce debate within the intellectual circles in Saudi Arabia.
The fatwa
Question: Dear Sheikh Saleh ibn Fawzan Al-Fawzan , what you say about the call to liberalism in Islamic countries? This ideology calls for a freedom that can only be restricted by the secular laws. It is the basis of pluralism, Muslims and kuffar (disbelievers) are equal. It gives the individual his personal liberty, is subject to Sharia is not, as they believe (the Liberals). This thinking is contrary to (consciously) of Sharia law in some respects, for example in the women's laws, in rules of relations with the disbelievers, fighting in the jihad, or the reprehensible conduct. Must say a Muslim: "I am a liberal Muslim"? What is your advice (Nasiha) to such people?
Answer: A Muslim is someone who extending through the Tawheed (belief in the Oneness of God) Allah subjects, followed by his obedience to Allah, and nothing to do with the Shirk (polytheism including atheism) and his people have. Someone who calls a freedom that is only controlled by secular laws, rebelled against the law of Allah. Who is the decision of the manner of paganism and idol wants such a person is not a Muslim. Who are the well-known laws and regulations of Islam rejects that everyone is familiar, like the difference between the Muslim and the kafir and one of Sharia child not freedom seeking and who reject the rules of Sharia, as the rules for women, the rules of "enjoin what is right and forbid what is evil" , and the legality of Jihad on the path of Allah, has committed several Islamic resistance jurisdictions (things that make Islam invalid). We ask Allah to cure (of these ideas). If you say "I am a liberal Muslim" contradicts himself when he says with liberalism the above. He must show repentance to Allah (Tauba) and to distance themselves from this ideology, so he really can be a Muslim .
exist in Saudi Arabia fear that it is by this fatwa to attacks on journalists and writers, which is accused of following the liberal ideology. Some experts, however, qualify this because they believe the suspect writers such views as they stand in the fatwa, not divide, and are committed to Sharia.
